Director Rob Lieberman rolled cameras on The Tortured for Twisted Pictures (the house of Saw) last year. Besides a promo trailer which surfaced in April, we’ve heard very little about its release. As producer Mark Burg tells us, the film is simply looking for a home. “We’re officially finished,” he reveals. “I like it. We just raised a bunch of prints and advertising money. [Co-producer] Oren [Koules] and myself are not generic producers where we go to a studio and they finance it. This isn’t how we run the company. So now we’re going to show the movie to a bunch of distributors which is the only way to really capitalize in the film biz if you do it that way. We’ll get started on that next week.” Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives) and Erika Christensen star in the film as parents who exact revenge on the man (Bill Moseley) who kidnapped and killed their child. It is official. Lauren Graham is coming back to series television. As EW.com reported early this week, the former “Gilmore girl” has been in talks to play a lead role in NBC’s “Parenthood,” replacing Maura Tierney who bowed out after being diagnosed with cancer. NBC has just confirmed that Graham’s deal is done. Graham will once again be portraying a single mother to a teenage girl. The series, loosely based on the 1989 “Parenthood” film, also stars Peter Krause, Erika Christensen, Craig T. Nelson, Dax Shepard and Monica Potter. Production on the dramedy, expected to premiere midseason, will resume shortly. From Zap 2 It |

“Gilmore Girls” alumna Lauren Graham is in negotiations to join NBC’s upcoming drama series “Parenthood,” taking over the role played in the pilot by Maura Tierney, who pulled out of the show in September to focus on her breast cancer treatments. Helen Hunt was approached to step in for Tierney, but a deal could not be made. “Parenthood” is a contemporary take on Ron Howard’s 1989 movie. The series, created by Jason Katims, revolves around four adult siblings (Peter Krause, Erika Christensen, Dax Shepard, Graham) and their parents (Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson). “Parenthood” was slated for a fall launch but pushed to midseason after Tierney’s illness was discovered in July. From Reuters |

Helen Hunt has been approached to join NBC’s upcoming drama series “Parenthood,” taking over the role played in the pilot by Maura Tierney. The Oscar and Emmy winner is said to be considering the offer, which would mark her return to series television and to NBC, where she starred on the comedy “Mad About You” for seven years before segueing into features. On “Parenthood,” a contemporary take on Ron Howard’s 1989 movie, Hunt would join an already strong cast. The UMS/Imagine TV series, created by Jason Katims, revolves around four adult siblings — three of them played by Peter Krause, Erika Christensen and Dax Shepard — and their parents (Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson). Hunt would play the fourth sibling, a contemporary version of the character portrayed by Dianne Wiest in the film. Tierney, who played the role in the pilot, pulled out of the series last week to focus on her breast cancer treatments. “Parenthood,” exec produced by Katims, Howard and Brian Grazer, was slated for a fall launch but pushed to midseason after Tierney’s illness was discovered in July. In 1998, Hunt accomplished a rare feat when she won an Oscar, a Golden Globe (both for “As Good as It Gets”) and an Emmy (for “Mad”) in the same year. In the past 10 years, she has focused primarily on features and made her directorial debut with 2007′s “Then She Found Me.” |
